Tips for Prioritizing Your
Life
Balance the time you
spend on
your business matters, family, friends, relaxing and playing. This is
so important!
How to prioritize -
Make or keep a running
To Do List and prioritize it (A-D) and number it order of their
urgency then move on to the B’s and use the same process. As you set
task/values lists, ask yourself whether you can eliminate or delegate
any of them. Remember,
if your priorities aren’t on paper, they probably aren’t
a priority.
Learn how to manage yourself within time.
In learning how to
prioritize you allow yourself more freedom and peace of mind. Do the
most important items first then the next ones, any items left may be
re-evaluated for urgency for the following day.
Make an
appointment with yourself, treat it as you would any other
business commitment. It gives you the sense of being in control of
where you are going, and that you are taking the positive steps to get
there. When circumstances arise that infringe on your quiet time, and
they will, reschedule for later in the day. You will soon realize the
importance of having this quiet time.

Get the Cow off Your Desk And the Monkey off Your Back- Part
three of eight
It’s all about paper flow and time management
The Cow turns into a
pile
Gather all your papers and folders into a huge pile.
Assemble the boxes, but leave the lids off. Stand them up on end and
label each one with a Post-It type of note: Current Business,
Potential Projects, Creative Ideas, Personal, Marketing. You’ll
identify your own major topics and no doubt create others as you sort.
Now you have a goal: to handle only once each paper or file in the
stack, and put it into the appropriate box. Lay the documents flat on
the bottom of the box (it’s open on the side, remember) and place them
face down in the new stack. This process will prepare you for the next
step of adding these items to your filing system.

B2B Article 2
How to get started on
clearing paper clutter
What can prevent you from becoming organized?
At a basic level, there is really just a failure to systematize common
decisions. Whenever you leave things out, it's because you're not
ready to decide what to do with the item. The process of organizing
comes down to having a system for automating decisions about where
everything goes. You need to have systems that work well for how you
think and how you do things. Disorganized people usually do not have
systems that work for them if they have systems at all. This makes it
so you have to make a decision every time on a case-by-case basis.
Eventually this becomes overwhelming, and clutter begins to pile up.
Why do organized people seem to get more done?
Organized people have systems that work for them and tend to make far
fewer decisions in the long run. It takes far more time to be
disorganized than it does to be organized.
Are you ready to get organized and create greater efficiency in your
life?
Let's get to sorting through all those items in your piles of clutter!
I recommend that you have several boxes on the floor and begin placing
items into the boxes. That means like items with other like items. The
key is to sort items in a way that makes sense from a functional
standpoint. Ask yourself under what conditions each item would be
needed, and sort items by similar conditions. For example, you may
have papers that need to be filed, another box might have books and
yet another may have items that just don't belong in the room at all.
You should also have a trash or recycle receptacle close by.
I would like to caution you to resist the urge to start putting things
away until you have complete the "pre-sort". We are going to take a
look at why the clutter accumulated because there's usually a good
reason why it did. Here is where a professional organizer can help you
to evaluate your clutter patterns and help you create systems that
will work for you. The key here is learning why these items turned
into clutter, even though you know where the items are filed or
stored. Can you see where disorganized people can lose lots of time
due to inefficiency?
How did this stuff end up as clutter?
It's likely the reason these items ended up as clutter because you
didn't have a good system for dealing with them. Maybe there is no
system at all and they simply don't have an assigned home. Perhaps the
place you file or store them is too inconvenient, so it's easier just
to leave them out. For instance, maybe you have items that need to be
filed, but you don't yet have a file for them, and your blank file
folders are inconveniently stowed away deep in your closet. Ask
yourself under what conditions each item might not have ended up as
clutter. This will give you a clue as to how to prevent the clutter
from returning.
Now I have flow efficiency...
Once you have achieved the flow of systems that work, the greatest
benefit will be the achievement of a persistent feeling of flow
efficiency. Working in a self-maintaining, uncluttered environment
will allow you to be extremely productive while enjoying the process
each day.
Is there really professional help available?
If you don't feel your current systems are serving you well, I
encourage you to try something new. Let us help you create a feeling
of balance without anything important falling through the cracks.
